As head of Council, the Mayor exercises both statutory duties and executive powers.
These duties include recommending courses of action to Council that improve the finances, health, security, cleanliness and comfort of the municipality. It is the Mayor's responsibility to preserve order while presiding over Council meetings and to summon Special Council meetings as necessary. The Mayor is also a member of Regional Council.
The Mayor plays a lead role in implementing policies, plans and practices to reach Council's objective.
