Residents Share Thoughts About Richmond Hill Budget
Council announced that the first of two public information sessions being held by Town staff as part of the 2012 Operating Budget process was well attended by the community. Upwards of 100 people stopped by at the information session held at Hillcrest Mall on Saturday, January 14 to share their thoughts about how their tax dollars are spent. Members of the public can voice their opinions and participate in another session this Saturday, January 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bond Lake Arena. Feedback by email can also be provided at email@example.com. The Budget Committee of the Whole meetings will begin public budget deliberations starting Tuesday, January 31. More information on the Town’s budget including a meeting schedule can be found at RichmondHill.ca/Budget. It is expected that the budget will be approved by Council in April 2012. Richmond Hill Is Committed To Preserving Community’s History
Council approved three heritage grants to assist in the preservation of properties with historical significance: 40 Frank Endean Road (John Horner House, circa 1840), 10 Elizabeth Street, (Phillips-Newbury-Bowman House, circa 1825 and renovated to the Tudor style in 1918) and 210 Richmond Street (Col. David Bridgeford, circa 1860). Each has been designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. Stewardship of Richmond Hill's heritage resources is identified as a priority in the Town's Strategic Plan, and the heritage grant program assists in fulfilling this mandate. Properties designated under the Ontario Heritage Act are recognized as community assets and provided protection under the Act. The goal of preservation is to provide today's residents with a living connection between the past and the present, acknowledging the important contribution earlier generations made to the development of the community. The next Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24 at 4:30 p.m. and the next Council meeting is Monday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers.
