 Lakeland, Florida was chosen as the Sister City to Richmond Hill because of similarities in terms of size, population and residential and commercial characteristics. Lakeland and Richmond Hill twinned on March 30, 1990. On this day, a declaration of friendship was signed and sealed by both municipalities. This relationship was established to further friendship, and contribute to the development and prosperity of both communities.
Lakeland is located between Tampa and Orlando, and is well-known for its annual Sun 'N Fun Fly-in Airshow, this event being the third largest in the world.
